If you've been to the festival the past two years, Big Nazo needs no introduction. The performance group's surreal cast of characters create a true spectacle with a performance style that is impossible to pin down. See some of their antics from last year here.
Mister Gnogiurzauchshoff's Traveling Midway of Curiosities and Delights will be arriving in the great town of San Francisco for their debut appearance at the Treasure Island Music Festival. The Brothers bring to you "Solvo Fervens Cani" - the human powered target-shooting booth. "The Great Airship Race" - take your aim, fill up the basket and watch you airship fly the skies. "Bean Bag Burlesque" - Enter the burlesque tent, and watch these sexy ladies dance. "The 5' Marble Maze" - Step up and master the game you never mastered. And while you're at it, you can step into their lounge and "Flip your lid" Enjoy the comfort of Mister Gnogiurzauchshoff's personal lounge. Enjoy wearing a fine hat? Nows your chance to master the skill of flipping your lid.
The live mural wall is back, presented by Pacific Art Collective, the 30ft. wall will feature the finest Bay Area graffiti artists.
Saucony Originals is coming to Treasure Island and bringing along their yellow jacketed buddies from Universal Record Database to make all of your wildest dreams come true- as long as those dreams involve being a world record holder or receiving a free pair of shoes. Check out the blog. For ideas on records to break be sure to come participate in the group records ("Largest Group of People Singing 'Don't Stop Believin' by Journey" & "Largest Breakdance Wave Chain") that will be happening both days at 4pm!
Our stunning 60 ft. ferris wheel returns - this time with a twist. The Bay Bridged will be filming "Ferris Wheel Confessions" several times throughout the weekend. Have an embarrassing musical or personal secret you'd like to share while rotating through the air? Tell us your story and the ferris wheel ride is on us. Spots are limited so sign up at the Ticket Booth when you arrive to the festival. The best confessions will be posted here and on The Bay Bridged after the festival.
The Treasure Trove interactive art and culture tent is where you can get your picture taken at the FilmCycle Photo Booth, participate in the Triple Base Gallery Drawing Lab, tell us your secret at Scales, a new participatory installation by Mary Corey March that explores measuring ideas and words, both yours and others; or simply chill out by grabbing one of the Bushwaffle's - playful personal pink inflatables!- and going for it.
Earth Mandala - Scott O'Keefe - (aka the Bottle Cap Shaman) is one of the pre-eminent creators of natural Earth Mandalas, each carefully and respectfully crafted from organic materials gathered from the immediate environment surrounding these unique site-specific installations. Scott will be working throughout the festival to create a Mandala reflecting Treasure Island's natural environment ... and attendees are welcome to participate by providing their own elements to be included in the piece.
Tawdry - Oakland-based artist Rosanna Scimeca is renowned for creating beautifully ornate steel and fiberglass sculptures that have been featured at such festivals as Coachella, Wanderlust, Symbiosis Gathering, Burning Man and more. Her piece "Tawdry", found in the center of the Great Lawn, offers a communal respite and contemplative gathering place, inside which is mounted a static trapeze, on which performances will be held throughout the festival.
The Kinostan Pocket Film Lab is a film lab for the future. Stop in at any time and be entertained with short documentaries, film poems, music videos or visual and audio artworks. Whether stopping into the lab for 5 minutes or an hour, you will get a unique experience, seeing films that are definitely NOT playing at a theater near you. Brought to you by Aram Shumavon, Mike Plante and Wholphin.
Wondering what those crazy visuals are on the Bridge Stage? Dubbo is a live video performance duo formed by San Francisco artists Mauricio and Christine Ancalmo. Using live camera feeds, animation and sampled visual media, they specialize in noisy distorted video assemblages that wreak havoc on your eyeballs.
Beverages
A full selection of beverages will be available on-site throughout the festival including premium beer and wine for those 21 years and older. There are no fenced-in beer gardens and all beverages may be enjoyed anywhere on festival grounds. Also, new this year to the festival is the Refillable Water Program, which will cut down plastic bottle consumption. There are two different refillable spring water options - you can purchase a TIMF branded stainless steel water bottle at the water station or merchandise tent and receive free refills of spring water all weekend, or bring your own water bottle from home and purchase refills for $1.
Food
There will be a variety of Bay Area favorites available at the Treasure Island Music Festival such as Mexican and Indian food, sushi and chowder bowls as well as more traditional festival fare including burgers, BBQ, pizza, falafel, veggie wraps, and smoothies. To accommodate a wide variety of dietary considerations, there will be numerous vegetarian and vegan options. And once again, the Ice Cream Man will be on hand doling out free cold treats.
