Will Murs' Nick Carter change hip hop? Maybe he will without even trying. As he says in "Everything," off his latest, Murs for President, he's just "trying to make my tomorrows better than my yesterdays". Many people say Murs already is changing hip hop - for the better. Carter has a more positive message than most, often breaking away from the simple structure of writing solely about himself. There are melodies and chords behind his words, let alone thought and wit. Maybe this "conscious hip hop" artist will be a breakthrough for the genre - representing the perfect blend of badass ghetto attitude and musical talent, with a dash of political saavy and a whole lotta brains. Carter is the middle-of-the-road hip hop candidate, dangerously electable. He already knows how to to it, as he says in "Lookin' Fly," Just "put your tie on, get your fly on, she say DJ, he play my song." NICOLAS GRIZZLE
