At the Treasure Island Festival we pride ourselves on providing tons of fun and different offerings in addition to the music, and this year is certainly no exception. Our beacon, the spectacular 60ft. Ferris Wheel will be surrounded by our ever-changing eclectic mix of interactive art installations and roaming performers, the Silent Disco will be back in full-effect and the Treasure Chest, our vendor village, will feature the best local crafters and designers displaying their unique festival fare.
The party moves from the stages to the fields as Treasure Island returns with spectacular, one-of-a-kind attractions to keep your spirits high. Listed below are just a few of the highlights we have in store for you this year.
Part grown up summer camp, part lounge and 100% awesome—Camp D.I.Y. is a must-visit! Hang out with SF’s most creative camp counselors and get your hands dirty in this interactive tent all weekend long. Head here to make dream catchers, terrariums, macramé, screenprint bandanas, sew up beer koozies and more. Produced by the fine folks at Workshop.
As always, our Treasure Chest vendor village will feature an eclectic mix of Bay Area Crafters selling fantastic, one of a kind creations.
The folks at The Bay Bridged and Audyssey have returned to bring you “Ferris Wheel Confessions.” Hop on our 60-foot high Ferris wheel and share your most incriminating secrets or even your favorite musical experiences to score a free ride.
Keep your eyes peeled to catch festival favorites, Big Nazo, roaming the grounds. These life-size puppet performers create bizarre and hilarious larger-than-life sized characters and spectacles.
Hierarchy of Needs is an artist collective providing structured-interaction at Treasure Island Music Festival. The group includes Amy Keefer as "Alchem-Amy", Ashley Lauren Saks as “Bea Frokstah”, Erik Bakke as “The Facilitator of Fantasy Transport”, Maja Ruznic as “The Arsenal of Words & Symbols”, Kazoo Studios as “Free Everywhere Media”, Pete Hickok as “OffsetLIFE”, and (Your Name Here).
This group of artists’ main goal is to guide the visitors of the Treasure Island Music Festival towards self-actualization, enlightenment, creativity and most importantly—FUN! Inspired by Abraham Maslow’s A Theory of Human Motivation, Hierarchy of Needs offers services that serve no practical purpose other than to benefit the vital psychological and social self. Maslow’s theory is most often displayed as a pyramid, with the lowest level of the pyramid made up of the most basic human needs, such as the need for food and shelter. The more complex needs, such as the need for creativity and self expression, are located at the top of the pyramid. As visitors interact with us, they will bypass the most basic steps of the pyramid and linger at its highest point.
Also, look up for our friends from stiltdancers.com, as well as the Hula Hoopers and ladies of Double Dutch.
All is not as is appears, as the (Transport)ation Galleries makes their debut at the Festival. Seemingly ordinary box trucks on the outside beckon you to step in and explore a variety of eclectic spaces.
Don’t miss the Silent Disco powered by Sony Entertainment Network at The Cove for your chance to hear the latest dance beats broadcast directly into your ears! Live DJs will spin all day and night for the headphoned masses.
At night the sculptural installations come alive—look up to see Robert Bose’s ethereal Balloon Chains as they flow with the wind or take in the Billion Jelly Bloom as they transform the night air into a deep ocean inhabited by an undulating, luminous jellyfish bloom. Marco Cochrane’s breathtaking Bliss Dance presides over it all, an inspiring sculpture of ecstatic elation.
Levi's Bike Shop and Valet Bike Parking provided by the SF Bicycle Coalition. Think of it like a coat check for bikes-you don't need to worry about the safety of your bike while you are out enjoying the music, just park your bike at Lot A, ride a zero-emission bus to the island, and then turn in your claim check when you get back to Lot A. Special thanks to Levi's and the SFBC for offering this free, unique, and convenient service!
