Stephen Malkmus & The Jicks
SUNDAY / BRIDGE STAGE / 4:20–5:10pm

Formed in 2000, Stephen Malkmus and The Jicks are still going strong with the release of their Beck-produced album Mirror Traffic this past August. Anyone familiar with Malkmus should know that he is synonymous with rock and roll: his vocals are great, his lyrics are smart, and he can jam/shred/kill it like no other on the guitar—anybody who argues the opposite is probably just out to kill your joy. Stephen Malkmus and The Jicks (Joanna Bolme, Mike Clark and Jake Morris) always deliver: live they are a blast of pure indie rock and on record they are immediately listenable and captivating, even though all five albums go in a different direction. Once an outlet for Pavement fanatics to get their fix, now the Jicks are a separate entity, with the witty lyrics Malkmus is known for alive and well. Malkmus is a genius songwriter in any band, known for his quick wit and excellent stage banter too. LAUREN ROSENTHAL
