Empire of the Sun
SATURDAY / BRIDGE STAGE / 9:35–10:35pm

Hailing from the golden shores of Australia, Empire of the Sun’s dazzling theatrics are matched only by the sensational glam pop. Taking the glam aspect of that description particularly literal, the costumed Luke Steele, also of Sleepy Jackson, visually resembles an Adam and the Ants tribute act while aurally mixing together a new wave inspired collection of tracks reminiscent of everything from Bowie to Prince, with all the appropriate androgyny to boot. Setting laid-back pop melodies within an outlandish, fantastically electro landscape, the addictive hooks and undeniable craftsmanship of the debut album, Walking on a Dream, took the world by storm; going platinum in Australia, charting across Europe and the U.S., and propelling the former studio only project across the globe. Shuffling schedules and commitments has made a follow-up album and touring difficult for Steele, leading to speculation over the future of the project. Luckily for fans, Empire of The Sun has announced a new album in the works and a renewed dedication to creating ludicrously amazing music. CHARLES SWANSON
