We’ve gotten a lot of great things from the British: cricket, crumpets and of course, the wedding of the century. But one of the best exports from the U.K. is Dizzee Rascal, who over the past decade has pioneered the eclectic (and successful) union of raw grime, dirty electronic and street hip hop, and recently peppered his sound with pop sensibility. His exotic and masterful style is influenced by an endless number of sources (from metal to reggae to drum and bass) and is easily recognizable by his unique (and lightning fast) vocals. Dizzee’s last record, Tongue N’ Cheek, was dropped in 2009 and represented a departure from the grime sound he had popularized by the incorporation of more mainstream pop. The result? Four number-one hits. Dizzee has expanded upon his solo career collaborating with international artists like Calvin Harris, Florence + the Machine and Shakira. He has gone on record stating he will release a new album next year, although he’s remained mum about what style the album will have. Whether he brings his stripped down beats or unexpected harmonies, expect nothing but high energy insanity when Dizzee takes the stage. VERONICA YOUNG
